WASHINGTON ELECTRIC CO-OP OUTAGE UPDATE

August 29, 2011, 2:45 PM

Washington Electric Co-op is continuing to make progress restoring power to members affected by Tropical Storm Irene. As of 2:00 PM, 524 members were without power in locations scattered through our territory. The outage locations are primarily in the Worcester, Moretown, Corinth and Cabot/Walden areas.

During the day on Sunday, WEC reached a peak of approximately 1,200 members without power and made considerable progress during the course of the day. However, the high winds that followed the end of the rain in the evening caused additional outages, so we began this morning with 1,500 out. We expect that approximately 250 homes will be without power overnight Monday, and that we will be able to finish restoration sometime on Tuesday. Although most of our crews will be sent home to rest after dark, we will keep a crew working through the night.

As with other utilities, WEC’s ability to restore power in certain locations is being hampered by impassable roads, both state highways as well as town roads.

Washington Electric Co-op serves over 10,500 homes and businesses in 41 towns in Orange, Washington and Caledonia Counties.
